SIGNS OF HEARING LOSS
The National Association for Hearing and Speech Action has launched its Identify the Signs campaign.
9 Warning Indicators of Possible Hearing Loss In ADULTS:
1. Inattentiveness
2. Buzzing or ringing in their ears
3. Failure to respond to spoken words
4. Persistent ear discomfort after exposure to loud noise (regular and constant listening to electronic devices at high volumes)
5. Muffled hearing
6. Constant frustration hearing speech and other sounds
7. Avoids conversation
8. Social isolation
9. Depression
8 Signs of Hearing Loss in CHILDREN and YOUTH:
1. Lack of attention to sounds (birth-1 year)
2. Does not respond when you call his/her name (7 months-1 year)
3. Does not follow simple directions (1-2 years)
4. Shows delays in speech and language development (birth-3 years)
5. Pulls or scratches at his/her ears
6. Difficulty achieving academically, especially in reading and math
7. Socially isolated and unhappy in school
8. Persistent ear discomfort after exposure to loud noise (regular and constant listening to electronic devices at high volumes)
